About The Breed

Ragdoll cats are renowned for their docile, affectionate, and "floppy" temperament, often going limp when held and acting as "dog-like" companions. They are large, long-haired, blue-eyed cats with an average 12–17 year lifespan. They are excellent with children and pets, though prone to HCM, a heart disease.

Temperament and Behavior

• Affectionate & Docile: Known for being extremely gentle, loving, and laid-back.

• "Floppy" Nature: They often go limp or completely relax in your arms when held.

• "Dog-like": They often follow owners from room to room, greet them at the door, and can learn to play fetch.

• Social & Needy: They are not typically independent and prefer company, making them susceptible to loneliness if left alone for long periods.

Suitability for Families

• Great with Children: Highly patient and gentle, making them excellent family pets.

• Pet-Friendly: Generally get along well with other cats and dogs. 

Size and Appearance

• Large Breed: Males can weigh 15-20 pounds, while females are 10-15 pounds.

• Appearance: Known for their striking blue eyes, plush coat, and colorpoint patterns (lighter bodies with darker extremities). Ragdolls have medium size ears that are wideset, not standing straight up( if good quality). 

• Slow Maturity: They can take up to 4 years to reach full maturity.

Health and Care

• Lifespan: Typically live between 12 and 17 years.

• Common Health Issues: They are prone to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).

• Grooming: While their coat is silky and requires less maintenance than some long-haired breeds, they still need regular brushing.

• Weight Management: Because they are less active, they can be prone to obesity, requiring a healthy diet and play.

Finding Ragdoll Kittens

• Reputable Breeders: Look for breeders registered with organizations like TICA or the CFA to ensure healthy breeding practices.

• Cost: Quality Ragdoll kittens from reputable breeders in the US can cost between 2,800-4,000. Any "Cheaper" I would be concerned it may be a scam, very poor quality or unregistered.

Activity Level

• Low to Moderate: They are not known to be high-jumpers, preferring to stay on the same level as their owners.

• Playful: They enjoy gentle play, such as chasing toy wands, despite their calm demeanor.
